This paper draws from the emerging spiritual leadership paradigm to integrate the dispersed theory and research on workaholism. We first argue that enthusiastic workaholism is rooted on intrinsic motivation and positively related to personal and organizational outcomes while nonenthusiastic workaholism is based on extrinsic motivation and negatively related to personal and organizational outcomes. Next, spiritual leadership theory is reviewed and used to explain these differences in positive human health and psychological well-being for enthusiastic and nonenthusiastic workaholics.
